Job Description

 Key Responsibilities

  • Develop technical specifications
  • Enforce, refine and document database standards
  • Work with technical/development leads to design, or review designs for databases
  • Assess and identify database server resource requirements
  • Develop and maintain data models
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of multiple database platforms
  • Code, test and deploy database changes
  • Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention to prevent customer impact
  • Review performance stats and recommend changes for tuning database and application SQL
  • Assist developers in the development and tuning of database queries, stored procedures, indexes, etc.
  • Participate in periodic backup audits, including test restores ensuring all databases and associated logs are being backed-up
  • Lead requirements assessments for backup and recovery
  • Assume ownership of database related problems; pursue problem resolution and root cause analysis
  • Troubleshoot complex database and performance related issues including after-hours and weekends to meet SLA
  • Install, configure and upgrade database software
  • Perform application related deployments to test and production environments
  • Perform capacity planning for databases
  • Document processes and issue resolutions
  • Analyze and resolve highly complex problems
  • Monitor and tune existing databases of high complexity and high business exposure
  • Use database management tools proficiently
  • Recommend database and system management tools as required
  • Proactively analyze database implementations and provide recommendations for improvements in performance and efficiency
  • Provide leadership and coaching for team
  • Implement operational automation

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of professional work experience and education
  • 5 years’ work experience in Engineering and/or IT environment
  • 5 years’ work experience with SQL Server
  • 2 years’ work experience with Oracle Enterprise Databases and RAC
  • Work experience with Linux
  • Working knowledge of MySQL, MongoDB and Ops Manager
  • Working knowledge of AWS and Azure
  • Demonstrated experience with computer or network systems hardware and software development methodology/process obtained through formal training, education, and/or work experience
  • Experience with design and development of multiple database engines
  • Experience with database schema design
  • Strong in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention
  • Proficient knowledge of Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Proficient knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication
  • Implement operational automation
  • Expert knowledge of indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration and patching as well as how statistics work, how indexes are stored, and how indexes can be created and managed effectively
